Learn More About Cartoon Licensing Cartoon Licensing is an agreement between a cartoonist (Licensor) and a manufacturer (Licensee) to display an artist’s character (property) on a specific product sold by the Licensee. This agreement specifies a limited period of time or designates a number of printed pieces, to be sold in a designated territory. In return, a fee (royalty) is paid by the Licensee to the Licensor for each product sold, based on the wholesale price of the item. An up front fee may also be required. All rights to the design stay with the Licensor. Images can be licensed to multiple companies simultaneously.
